Basics 4: Keep the Picture Big

I’m going to share briefly something I figured out yesterday with regard to my own personal efforts at keeping myself exposed to the big picture of an entire book.

Audio!

Yes, I realize that is supremely simple, but here I am…I’m still learning.

Being asked to present some background information and some hermeneutical points in a study in Mark that is beginning in my hometown, I just didn’t have time to sit and read start to finish. It’s not my primary study currently, so I wanted to just be re-familiarized with what our friend Mark had to say. I made dinner while the nice man in my Logos Bible Software read me the first 4 chapters.

Having the Word read over me was balm for my soul! This is not a replacement for my actual reading, but a supplement I discovered. Multiple gates being used–eyes and ears–always benefits my ability to absorb.

I did a cursory look at the App Store this morning as I considered telling you about my discovery. There are some nice audio options that cost a few dollars a month, it looks like. As well as some that are free by “Faith by Learning”. I haven’t actually heard them since I already have the resource on my phone via Logos, but maybe someone could let me know what they find or already use and then everyone will benefit.

Bible Study Bite for today is to have the Word wash over us. It’s God’s communication with us, so being able to keep it in the forefront of our minds will profit our relationship with him. Next up in our steps toward more development of our study technique is sentence diagramming.
